Bahamian musicians aren't sitting back and waiting for something to happen anymore. They're making it happen, and taking their music to the public.
You can catch artists like Patrice Ferguson, Ra Soul, Alia Coley, Sami Starr, Lady G, Puzzle, B'Marie, Bo-Bo Ken and Smoothe, commencing Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Blue Note Lounge in the Nassau Beach Hotel. Also expected to showcase their talents in the weeks to come are Jah-Lam, Slubbz, Muh Buiy Dem, Krimpster, 21, Julien, Greneka Rolle, Believe and Sky, Shanoon Miller, Cash Catie, Shaow Hand, West Side Boyz, Voyce, Renee Ceasar, Anthon and Be.
"The Blue Note is going to be the platform for all entertainers. Every Wednesday will be a regular club night but we'll always have a one hour show that includes an artist of each genre. So you'll have your reggae, your hip-hop, your neo-soul jazz and then your R&B. Basically what I'm trying to do is to focus on mainstream talent," she said. "Some of our artists, for example, wield the power of R&B, reggae, hip hop, calypso, pop and jazz just as well as others on the international stage, but these Bahamians have faced challenges in terms of acceptance by the wider community.
"Their talent is unmatched, and their presence is unforgettable. But our artists have quickly realized the importance of having someone to represent them because artists shouldn't have to worry about the business side of it at all," she said. "That only takes away from them doing their art, and no one wants that. So, now these artist have help, as we, Make 'em Listen were created just for them."
Mak 'em Listen was founded by a group of Bahamian musicians, producers, promoters, managers, to cultivate, promote and support mainstream art forms by Bahamians."
Three months ago, the Bahamian music industry had very few dedicated music promotion/management companies that primarily focused on the artist. However, that has changed.
"I just got through doing a four month run of a show called Sunday's Unplugged at Envy," which came out of the Make 'em Listen Movement said Brown. "It was a talent competition and the prize was $5,000.

Candela Music Partners with Make Em’ Listen
By: Kendeno N. Knowles

Nassau, BAHAMAS: Make Em’ Listen (MEL) recently announced it’s partnership with Candela Music (CM), an international company based out of Miami, Florida. CM headed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sergio Candela who is also a Mexican Native was establishes back in 2003. CM was initially started to give struggling artists a shot in the music industry, providing original tracks and studio time to artists that did not have any other avenue. Candela and his entire family moved to the United States from Mexico at the age of 14 for a better life. Candela who had a passion for music started the music industry at the tender age of 17. Now an aspiring artist, he struggled to find help getting his music some attention. After trying to solicit the help of other Hispanic artists Candela shortly found out the harsh realities of the cut throat industry and is in his words “every man for himself”. From that experience, Candela Music was born. Candela began recording his own songs and doing a number of collaborations with numerous Latino artists. Candela also worked with an international music label based out of Madison, Wisconsin called Genesis Records. Genesis Records has produced and managed a number of successful artists in the United States. KloQwYse(Clockwise) is another artist and producer Candela has worked with closely. Since 2003 CM has managed and produced a number of Bahamian artists including, Richard Dean [Sly Mob] and Reynaldo Newbold [Scarface]. CM’s partnership with MEL signifies a new beginning and move towards even bigger and better things.
